How to create your first site on our hosting.

If you have spent some time on our website, you may have noticed that Black Tie Host is using ISOConfig as a hosting control panel. In this post, we will guide you through the steps to create your first website.

Prerequisites

First of all, you have to decide on which of our Hosting Plans to subscribe to. If you choose our Basic plan or Advanced plan, you need to buy a domain. For the Business plan, we will set up the things for you.

To do this, go to our main page. You will see a domain search form, powered by our partner Namecheap. Fill in the domain name you want, hit enter and you will be redirected to Namecheap domain search results. Namecheap offers a constant discount for a lot of domain extensions, as you can see below the search form on our main page. After you buy your domain, point it to our nameservers: ns1.shhservice.com and ns2.shhservice.com.

After you set up your domain and registered for our hosting, you can access our Hosting control panel.

Add your domain

To add your domain, in the control panel go to the “Sites” sites tab, choose “Websites” from the left menu and click the green button “Add new website”. The form looks like below:

Fill in your data as shown in the image. If you do not need SSL, do not check the SSL box. However, be advised that a non-https website may affect its performance in google search results. This will be discussed in a separate post. So, it’s better to use SSL. More about SSL certificates you can be read in this post. Also, Let’s encrypt should not be selected at this point. Let’s encrypt needs to access your website to create the certificate, which will be available after you create your DNS records.

The last two dropdown menus give you the ability to choose the PHP version for this website. The Default option (as on the image) is PHP7.4. However, as you may want to use a script that is working best on older versions of PHP, we have a couple of PHP versions available for our customers: PHP5.6, PHP7.0 and PHP7.2.

Once done, click Save. If you change tabs before this, changes will be lost. At the top of the control panel, you will see a red dot, showing that some actions are taken. Once the dot disappears, open your site for editing by clicking on its domain name. For now, don’t change anything on the Redirect and SSL tab (actually, you won’t need the SSL tab, unless you want to import your own SSL certificate).

Statistic

Statistic’s tab would allow you to set AWStats for your website. Due to the GDPR requirements, the statistics are disabled server-wide. If you need a statistic for your website, you have to use Google Analytics or a similar service and implement it into your website GDPR.

From the last tab, you can set how often a backup of your site should be made and the number of backup copies to be kept. Make the required changes and save them.

Create DNS records

Adding DNS records can be a pain for some users. However, our control panel makes it easy even for a complete beginner. Just click on the “DNS” tab on the main many and then on the green button “Add new DNS zone with Wizard”. The form looks like below:

If later on, you want to manually add A or CNAME record or else, always set a trailing dot at the end of the record! (i.e. if you want to add a subdomain, in the first field enter “sub.example.com.”)

Again, wait for the red dot to disappear, and you are done. Your site is now live and you can open it in your browser. You will see the default site as shown below:

Create SSL certificate

Now, when your site is live, it is time to create your FREE Let’s Encrypt certificate. Go back to “Sites” and open your site for editing. This time, check the “Let’s Encrypt SSL” checkbox and click save. Once the red dot disappears, try to open your site with “https://” before the domain. You should see a padlock somewhere in your browser address bar if everything is OK. If you click on it you will see the certificate details.

If you want all the visitors of your website to be redirected to its secured version, open your site for editing, go the the “Redirect” tab and check the box next to “Rewrite HTTP to HTTPS”. Click save and it is done.

THE END

At this point, you have your domain live and secured with an SSL certificate and you can create your first website. If you want to create a blog or e-commerce shop, check the available apps in the control panel APPS installer. There you can find 150+ scripts for “one-click-install”.

Further to the above, refer to the “Help” section in the control panel on how to create an e-mail with your new domain and how to add an FTP user.

If you have any questions that you can not find answers to, feel free to send us an e-mail.
